WHY GO?
Shar mountain is the biggest mountain range in Macedonia, with an amazing range of pastures and high peaks. It spreads over 80 kilometers, forming the natural border between Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania. Shar Mountain has a massive long ridge, formed by more than 30 peaks that exceed 2500 meters. It is also dominating the big Polog field in which are nested Tetovo and Gostivar, two of the largest cities in Macedonia. From Skopje, the capital of Macedonia to Popova Shapka that is our base on Shar Mountain it takes only 1.5 hours and about 80 kilometers.
This kind of setting is setting is a great place for flying, appropriate for all types of pilots, with high hills, rich forest which on the west part of the valley forms proper terrains, and rocky ridges on the east side which create thermals for the experienced XC hounds.

HOW TO GET THERE? Situated at an altitude of 1650-1750 meters, Popova Shapka is the most popular skicenter in Macedonia From the Internatipnal Airport Skopje to Popova Shapka you drive mostly on a highway, and it would take you 1.5 hours to get there. From Shapka you can easily have daily visits to Skopje – the capitol of Macedonia that is only 60 kilometers away, as well as Tetovo only 18 kilometers away that offers an amazing nightlife.
